87TH ANNUAL SUMMER FESTIVAL
The Festival has been moved from its usual week in July to August 12 – 16, 2020. While not centered on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, this year, it revolves around the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The hours of the Festival have been condensed to 11am – 7pm each day (no break in the middle, but ending after the traditional dinner hour). The components of the Festival have been scaled back to accommodate appropriate social distancing. There will be no rides, bocce tournament, bingo or bands (activities that tend to invite close social contact). The variety of food at the Festival will be reduced to accommodate less workers and proper spacing in lines, while still focusing on the major Festival treats so many look forward to: Cheesepuffs, Twists, Red Pizza, Sausage Sandwiches, Cavatelli, Hot Dogs, French Fries, Pop and Lemonshakes. There will be a large “Social Distance Dining” area provided, while also encouraging many people to “take out”. The Grand Prize Raffle will be drawn at 7:00pm on Sunday, August 16, 2020.
We are looking for individual families to volunteer for cheesepuff making, beginning in July. Our plan is to have one family per day make as many cheesepuffs as possible, to create a stockpile prior to the festival. This is already done during the summer festival, but with different volunteers. Someone will be there to make the dough and to demonstrate how to make the cheesepuffs – no previous experience needed. Again, your family will be the only people in the room. The room with be sanitized after each family and family members will, like with the family making the pizza, be screened for temperature and other symptoms. If you are interested, please contact the office with possible dates of availability. Thank you for your flexibility as we go forth. Anyone interested in working during the festival in one of the food booths, please contact the parish office as well. Thank you for your willingness to help out.
Festival information and tickets have been mailed out to everyone. Once again, we are making a humble request for you to buy or sell one more book of Grand Prize Raffle tickets, and chances for the Golden Ticket Cheesepuffs and Twists for Life Raffle. As previously announced, five (5) winners will be drawn to receive one cheesepuff and twist every day of every festival (Summer, Oktoberfest and WinterFest) for life. The tickets are $1.00 each – books of 6 for $5.00. Each family will be given 10 books to consider buying or selling. Additional books will be available at the parish office. There is a limit of 10,000 books for sale. We are certain that this will be the hottest ticket in town. Thanks for your continued support of the parish and of our efforts to keep some of our special traditions alive.
Thank you to everyone who has been buying and selling your tickets for the Grand Prize Raffle and the Golden Ticket to receive a lifetime supply of Cheesepuffs and Twists. If you find you are unable to sell or purchase your Grand Prize tickets, please drop the unsold tickets in the collection box at Mass or the office mail box, in order that we may use them at the festival itself. We are very excited about being able to have our Summer Festival, if slightly scaled back, but still the event of the summer for our community!
