SUPPORT OF OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
This past Monday, I, in the name of our entire parish community, presented a check for $10,000 to the Niles FOP and the Niles City Schools to assist in providing a Police Responder Vehicle. This donation was previously announced and is part of our festival tithing from 2019’s festival profits. The responder program (which was created by Captain James Villecco) strives to have a police vehicle on all day shifts that is equipped with ballistic entry shields and other equipment needed to respond to and make entry into a building during a critical incident at the city schools or other needed location. Having a large enough vehicle to carry this equipment saves officers from having to return to the station and check them out of our department armory, shaving critical minutes off of our response. Mount Carmel, the Vanex Tube Corporation, and Niles Home Federal Savings and Loan combined to provide support to this project. The Niles Police Department hopes to take delivery of this responder vehicle by early spring. Both the Police Department and the Schools are very appreciative of our contribution and stated that they are are grateful and proud to serve a community that supports our efforts especially during these current difficult times. As a parish, we are very fortunate to express our support of our safety forces and our young people in the community.
